Its not simply about setting goals, its about Fulfillment

Have you ever set a goal and reached it, only to find the satisfaction short lived?  Perhaps it was because you have not come to realize that goal setting is just a tool in the bag for use in something that is much larger and more important.   I call this the circle of fulfillment.

Fulfillment is what we are really interested in.  But we don't want it to be a one time thing, this is why I call it the circle of fulfillment - it's meant to be something done over and over again if you are to get satisfaction out of it.  Of course, not just anything is going to motivate you to all the effort it takes to reach fulfillment.   To be motivated, you must have a passion for what you are doing,   Without the passion, any activity quickly becomes a chore or job.   Chores and jobs are things we do, only because we get a quick reward.   At a job, we get a pay check.   If we cook supper, we get to eat.

In order to attain a passion for something, we must first discover something of interest.   Sometimes we are lucky and easily discover interesting things. This is the proverbial pie in the face surprise.     Perhaps a parent, relative or friend hands to us the opportunity discover something interesting.   Other times, the only way we will discover something that interest us is to try new things that may not be appealing at first.   Sometimes it takes lots of trying things out before we find that one thing of interest.    It might take some real effort to find that first thing, but as you grow and gain interests, even more things of interest present themselves.  Then we must focus on singling what could become a passion.  Believe it or not, the discovery of a passion might take nothing more than imagination and dreaming on some seemingly passing fancy.    And how do you know when you have discovered a real passion?    Its when you learn that accomplishing goals is not enough.   It's when you discover that its about a process that leads to improving yourself, then starting all over again to achieve some more improvements.   This is what I call the circle of fulfillment.

Of course, my passion right now is tennis, more exactly, it's teaching tennis.   With this blog, I would like to explore how, if you have discovered an interest in tennis, you might obtain some fulfillment with it.  My intention is to use this blog to take you through a round of the circle of fulfillment, teaching you how to get your tennis game to a level that provides you with lasting satisfaction.
